My buddy and I have a standing zoom call Sunday nights at 7pm central. We alternate radio and medical training. Sometimes it's back to basics and sometimes it's advanced.
Tonight is all about SWR (standing wave ratio) and how to measure it with SWR meters or a VNA device.
A radio needs an antenna that is tuned to the frequency that it's going to transmit on. In other words it needs a low SWR (<3.0). Under 2.0 is better and under <1.5 is best.
A SWR of 1.0-1.1 is a perfect match. It's like choosing the right gear on a 10 speed bike. It makes it easy for the Radio to transmit.
Here is our zoom link. Make sure you introduce yourself.
